What New Construction Homebuyers Need to Know
Here are a couple of tips for new construction homebuyers.
As most of you know, with the lack of inventory in our market, it’s hard for buyers to find a house. Instead of buying a resale home, a lot of our clients are choosing to buy a new construction home built to their needs.
If you’re thinking the same thing, where do you go to start? There are a lot of spec home builders, on-lot builders, and manufactured homes out there, but my team and I prefer to work with today’s guest, Kurt Reddig of KR Homes LLC, a local custom builder. He joins us to give you an idea of what to consider in terms of choosing a builder and a lot.
It’s important to work with a builder who will shop in all prices and is committed to saving you money while building a quality product.
”According to Kurt, their most satisfied clients are the ones who can select both their lot and their house. They typically start with a house plan, and then you can customize the colors, flooring, cabinets, etc. Essentially, you get a custom home without paying custom-home prices.
If you’ve been paying attention to the news, you may have heard about increasing prices for lumber packages and other raw homebuilding materials. Along with impacting everything else, COVID disrupted the supply of lumber by causing the mills and lumberyards to temporarily shut down. Now that demand is back, builders are having trouble keeping up their lumber supplies. We’re hearing that the cost for raw materials has increased 25% to 30%, so it’s important to work with a builder who will shop in all prices and is committed to saving you money while building a quality product.
What do you need to know when it comes to choosing a lot? Kurt answers this question with a quote from famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright: “Build the house that fits the setting.” As you can see, we’re on-site at one of Kurt’s lots, and this setting has a beautiful view. Therefore, he’s building a house with a big daylight basement because it fits the slope of the land and fits the view.
